Why did Open Text acquire Corbis Media Management/eMotion?  What are the benefits of the deal?

With the acquisition of Corbis' Media Management division (formerly eMotion), Open Text obtains the leading provider of hosted digital asset management solutions that help marketing departments and advertising agencies manage and distribute digital marketing materials.

The acquisition will further Open Text’s leadership in marketing asset management solutions (as noted by Forrester Research earlier this year in the Forrester Wave Marketing Asset Management report which recognized Open Text’s Artesia Digital Media Group as the sole leaders in marketing asset management).

With the addition of Corbis Media Management, we can offer customers the choice between on-premise, installed solutions or hosted deployment for their demanding marketing asset management solutions.  Longer term, we’ll integrate key features of the Corbis solution into Artesia DAM to combine the best of both offerings.

The Corbis Media Management service will be rebranded as Artesia On Demand.  Open Text software touches more than 40 million end users in over 46,000 customers, all with increasing expectations of a rich user experience, including effective management of marketing and advertising content.

Jon Schupp and his team from Corbis Media Management will join Open Text and continue the development, support and sale of the Corbis Media Management service.
